Designed by Frank Gehry, this architectural masterpiece opened in 2003. Serving as a venue for a variety of musical performances, it is the primary home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Selected to design the complex in 1988, Gehry presented his concept for the unique curved steel shape three years later. The Disney family donated over $100 million for the project and the county of Los Angeles provided the 3.6 acres upon which the state-of-the-art auditorium is built. Free tours are available, however the auditorium is not included in the tour due to year-round rehearsals. The astounding acoustics in the auditorium make it an unforgettable arena in which to hear classical, contemporary, and operatic music. A decadent culinary experience with an award-winning wine list is found before or after a show at Patina, the prestigious Relais & Chateaux restaurant located on the premises.
